Het is salade van verse rauwe of geblancheerde groenten, die koud of lauwwarm wordt geserveerd. Voor veel Indonesiërs is lotek een volledige hoofdgerecht, dat met rijst wordt gegeten. The lotek sauce is more spicy than that for gado-gado and petjel due to the addition of different spices.
